This month’s employee spotlight is on Sally Ransom, one of our solution architects.
Sally, who’s been a part of the ChaiOne family for more than five years, is a real renaissance woman who enjoys juggling her passions for mobile app and game development, family, art and gardening.
As a solution architect at ChaiOne, Sally is a risk management whiz — honing her craft at a company she characterizes as both “cutting and bleeding edge.”
How did hear about ChaiOne?
I was finishing up my BS in computer science at the University of Houston, and ChaiOne came to the school to recruit students. At first, I wasn’t very interested because I was really into games, and I wanted to do my own thing. But ChaiOne presented itself really well, so I decided to go in for an interview – and I really liked the company compared to some of the other contenders.
What kind of projects have you worked on?
When I first started at ChaiOne, I worked on the backend with rails for the Deli Radio iPhone app. Since then, I’ve worked on almost twenty applications, mostly for the oil and gas and healthcare industries, but I’ve also had the chance to work on a game as well, which was very exciting.
What’s been your favorite project so far?
For sure the game! It was fun because I really enjoy art and design, and I love animation, so it was great to work on a project where all of those elements were included.
How would you describe ChaiOne’s company culture?
One of the best things about ChaiOne is most employees have that entrepreneurial motivation, which makes everybody want to do better, get better and do great things. It also motivates me to stay on that same track and do even more than I was doing before.
How has ChaiOne helped you grow professionally?
The one thing I didn’t have before I came to ChaiOne was team experience. I was a one-man band, so if I had a problem, I solved it. If I had questions, I answered them. And if I needed to grow, I put my own path in front of me. But having a team has benefited me because I have other people’s input, I have other people’s guidance, I have other people’s ideas that I can take and work with. So that has helped me out tremendously.
Outside of the office, how do you enjoy spending your time?
I really enjoy spending my time with family, and I really enjoy gardening. Before I went back to school at U of H, I actually had an internet business where I sold specialty plants all over the world. It was a lot of fun — and I still enjoy gardening as a hobby.
What would you say to others interested in a similar role to yours at the company?
You get to be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle from concept to deployment to maintenance. And I think that’s important especially when you’re the person laying out the plan to make sure that you see things are followed through and that you can be proud of your work.
